The lone steer on the farm is named Jed. He’s a Holstein that was bottle fed, and he has since been 100% grass fed. We guesstimate that he weighs between 800 and 900 lbs. We’ll know exactly how much he weighs after he takes his first (last) trip off the farm.
We can attest that Jed seems quite content eating grass, hay, and the occasional pear or ten. From a small farm management perspective, grass fed makes all kinds of sense if you have the graze available.
Jed will make his maiden voyage sometime soon, and my bride’s favorite dish is hamburger. Happy days are ahead.
